How To Clean Blinds

Aluminum blinds are probably the easiest to clean since they are pretty durable. Almost any soft cloth, dust cloth, or chemically treated dust cloths can get the job done.

It is advisable to vacuum the blinds first before wiping it with cloths. Make sure you attach the brush head to the vacuum hose. Vacuum gently. Make sure you cover the entire slats, tilt the slats to vacuum the other side. You should vacuum the slats horizontally for horizontal blinds and vertically for vertical blinds.

Once you are done vacuuming, you can use any household cleaning liquid along with a damp cloth to clean the slats. Use either cold or warm water when cleaning the blinds. Never use hot water. Make sure you place some rag cloths under the blinds to avoid making a mess.

For a more thorough cleaning, you can take the window blinds down, fill your bathtub with warm water and mix it with some liquid washing detergent, then dip the window blinds into the tub (Remember, use warm water, not hot water). Use a sponge or soft cloth to gently wipe the slats. When you are done, wipe the window blinds with a dry cloth or sponge. Hang it to dry.

For quick cleaning, just use a soft cloth or a feather duster to clear the dusts. One popular way to quickly clean your blinds is to use a soft cotton sock and a bottle of all-purpose-cleaning spray. Wear the sock on your hand and gently wipe the slats while using the spray. To clean the cord, any stain remover should do the trick.

Cleaning Wooden Blinds

Because wooden blinds are made from real wood, special attention is needed when cleaning it. Do NOT clean your wooden blinds with water. Water may cause the wooden blind to curve or warp. You can clean your wooden blinds by wiping them with a soft cloth or dusting it with a duster. You can also vacuum it, but make sure you use the brush attachment. You may also use non-wax furniture polish and a soft cloth to clean the wooden blinds.

For occasional deep cleaning, use a wood cleaner such as oil soap. Again, do not use soap and water on wooden blinds. If you are hesitant to clean your wooden blind yourself in fear of ruining it, you can get a professional window blind cleaner to clean it for you.

Velux Skylight Blinds Reviewed

Skylight blinds are becoming much more popular in the United States and have been enjoying popularity in Europe for some time. Velux blinds are not a new idea. Before we get too far let’s first examine where these Velux blinds came from. A Danish man by the name of Villum Kann Rasmussen saw an opportunity to develop unused attic space. The problem was that there was no natural light. Mr Rasmussen found a solution by putting a window into the roof which gave light and life to attic space that had been left in the dark. So I bet your wondering why the name Velux. Well, Velux blinds comes from the word ventilation a lux, which is the latten word or light.

Velux window blinds are made specifically for these windows that are built into roofs and are usually at a slanted angle. Since these windows are very different from standard windows that are set in a wall that is perpendicular to the floor they require special type of window blinds called Velux blinds are required.  Fitting Velux skylight blinds is a snap. The blinds are made specifically for this application and fit perfectly into the frame of the window. Today these skylight blinds come in a rainbow of colors and are constructed of many types of material.  There are a ton of options out there so you should be able to find an exact match for your needs.

There is no question why people have skylight windows built into their house. These windows are known for giving the homeowner a vibrant amount of light into space that is difficult to get light into.  Attics are often very popular places for these skylights windows to be placed. Often though these attics are used as a guest bedroom and so skylight blinds are needed to block out the light for the guests. Some times people just want the finish look that Velux blinds provide.

An inherent problem with these skylight windows is that it is often too high to adjust. That is why Velux blinds can be purchased with electronically operated remote control so you can open or close the skylight blinds from the comfort of your very own bed. This of course comes at a price. Velux are already a rather expensive option and the motorized blinds are not exception.

Probably the single largest draw back to these blinds is the high cost. You probably asking yourself how much do Velux blinds cost? Truth is that the costs can very dramatically depending on where you buy them. The blinds are not available at many online stores, which is helping to bring down the price. Also look for an estore that offers free shipping or special sales.

The word Velux has become a synonymous with skylight blinds. It’s taken the company 30 years short of a century to become the leading manufacture of roof windows. In the last 50 years the company has become as famous for their blinds as their windows. The company is committed to making only the best windows and blinds that have given Velux blinds their gold star reputation.
